Immigration: Discover a new world.
The topic of immigration is really very complex. It is not possible to have a general opinion about this. Because the impressions and questions surrounding the problem are very complex. Each immigration case is particular and can be related to the historical moment, countries involved and personal issues and subjective characteristics. There is no recipe as you are making a cake, for example. The relationship is private and each individual tells his own story.
The river empties into the sea, so much I learned, at a certain moment a Brazilian singer sang like that and another time a Brazilian poet told us that his destiny was to follow ... to go to the sea, to this poet he was a river that would follow and so we should leave it: simply follow. The analogy with the river is important because the great discussion about our existence is whether we are free to make our choices or not. Simple, we must follow destiny like a river. We are human beings and we have choices at all times, we are not like a river that has banks and can be dammed. The river has no choice, it has a limit and its fate is known to all.
When I got here, I remember perfectly well, it was a cold June morning, even though it was summer here. I brought in my luggage a little that I could bring. I was aware that when I moved to another city and country, many things would be left behind. I left not only books, records, musical instruments, personal objects, old collections, but I left a little of my soul, my identity perhaps the reason for my existence.
I think the Latin Americans, specifically the Brazilians and why not the Portuguese have a particular feeling about immigration and their pains. In Brazil, for example, in the songs, mainly in the Northeast of the country is very common a feeling rooted in pain, abandonment and solitude, including in Portuguese there is a word that has no translation: saudade. If you want to know the meaning of this word, you need to know beyond the grammatical or orthographic language, it is necessary to immerse deeply in the culture.
We translate our pains and frustrations into songs, poetry, we create words and sounds and thus express our deepest feelings. Adapting to a new land is extremely difficult, we need to acquire a new identity and conform to the loss of our own identity. But on the other hand, this non-adaptation of the immigrant in a new terrain can be a positive question, because the "saudade" brings poetry, music, movies and the idea, to build in a new country, a little of us, makes new appear places full of news and this exchange, makes us grow in a process of eternal creation
